With Furiosa, Viola Chiarini presents a second powerful production, driven by rebellion and the strength of the feminine. Inspired by the myth of Medea, this socially conscious piece transforms the stage into a cry of resistance against social violence and invisible forms of oppression.
Rooted in the practice of waacking – a dance form born of the LGBTQIA+ community and a vehicle for emancipation – Furiosa reveals its full expressive and political power. In an intense trio, Viola Chiarini channels the anger born of systemic oppression – whether brutal or overt – directed at everything that embodies or asserts the feminine. Drawing on her experience in dance therapy, she has created a work in which every movement becomes an act of survival, affirmation and liberation, celebrating the feminine in all its forms. Raw, sincere and timely, Furiosa resonates as a choreographic manifesto for the dignity and place of women, and of female, queer and dissident bodies, in our contemporary societies.
