BLIND (excerpts) – Hendrickx Ntela

Respectively of Congolese and Liberian origin, Hendrickx Ntela and Pierre Dexter Belleka, dancers and choreographers of Blind, found in krump culture an outlet that allows them to express the emotions that have shaped their life journeys, marked by political conflicts in their home countries.
In Blind, the choreographers seek to highlight the plurality of forms of civil disobedience in response to these systems, through each one’s culture and through krump.
Emerging in the 2000s in the ghettos of Los Angeles, krump is one of the latest forms of urban dance. Composed of tension-filled movements, this style is distinguished by controlled intensity and the expression of strong emotions such as joy, anger, or frustration. It is based on one principle: to release one’s voice, to articulate what cannot be shouted.
