Focus Get Down: international prospecting?
What is an international prospection mission for us?
At Get Down, an international prospection mission involves meeting with other organizations, artists, venues, and festivals to build connections and raise awareness of the work of the artists we support. The goal? To create links around the world, broaden the horizons of our talents, and develop programming and visibility opportunities internationally.
An international prospection mission is primarily an opportunity for exchange and discovery, where we can introduce Get Down’s artists to new audiences while also exploring potential collaborations with international networks.
Why does Get Down develop these kinds of missions?
The international promotion of our creations is essential to increase our visibility and ensure greater representation of our works at international venues and events.
The subsidy provided by Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI) has allowed Get Down to carry out several international prospection missions, thus meeting the expected outcomes, including:
- Raising visibility for the artists from the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles we collaborate with, among international structures interested in their works and choreographic styles, particularly those influenced by hip-hop culture.
- Meeting new key individuals, developing, and maintaining our network abroad.
- Exploring new partnerships and collaborations to facilitate the international dissemination of the projects and creations of the artists we support.
Who is our target audience?
Our missions are aimed, on the one hand, at dancers, performing artists, and the entire hip-hop cultural ecosystem. On the other hand, they target cultural events and venues, theaters, and programmers. These prospection missions allow us to connect artists with international venues or events, creating opportunities for the global development of their careers.
What are the objectives of the prospection missions?
Our international prospection missions aim to:
- Identify relevant events and key moments for Get Down artists.
- Create connections with venues, performance spaces, festivals, and other artists around the world.
- Expand co-production opportunities with international partners, offering financial or logistical support to the artists’ projects.
- Open new dissemination pathways for performances, enabling our artists to perform in various cultural venues internationally.
Concrete examples:
- Programming a show at an international festival.
- Co-producing a project with a foreign partner.
- Creating artistic collaborations between artists from different cultures.
How does Get Down finance these prospection missions?
Scouting missions are financially supported through grants from WBI (Wallonie Bruxelles International), which help cover part of the costs associated with travel, accommodation, logistics, and prospection activities.
An example of a prospection mission?
In October 2024, Camille Philippot, General Coordinator and Head of International Scouting at Get Down, traveled to Sweden for Malmö Dance Week. The goal of this trip was to explore the festival, establish new contacts, and potentially program Get Down artists for the 2025 edition of the festival.
During her visit, Camille met with one of the Malmö Dance Week organizers to plan the next steps and discuss programming opportunities. She also visited INKONST, a renowned performance and programming venue in Sweden, as well as Dansehallerne, a new national center for dance and choreography in Copenhagen, known for its support of performances, residencies, and artistic collaborations.
What are the concrete opportunities?
Thanks to these meetings, we hope to establish long-term partnerships and secure programming opportunities for our artists on international stages. Additionally, these missions help strengthen relationships with performance venues, festival organizers, and potential partners for the future.
