BEHIND THE SCENES AT GET DOWN : NEW TEAM AND COLLECTIVE DYNAMIC

Behind the Get Down – Dancers Management agency lies a versatile team guided by a single mission: to support artists on their creative journeys and help them share their art in Belgium and internationally.

Take a look behind the scenes at our work, our team and how we operate.

A SUMMER SPENT BUILDING STRUCTURE

If the summer months are often synonymous with a slowdown in the cultural sector, Camille took the opportunity to rethink Get Down’s organisational structure. The aim? To clarify the organisational structure, refine roles and define job descriptions. In other words: to set out precisely who does what.

During the summer of 2026, this internal work enabled to plan ahead for the coordination of a new team based on shared responsibilities within the agency. Camille’s aim was double: to welcome new team members into a structured framework and, for her part, to be fully committed to her role as general coordinator, while devoting even more energy to promotion.

«This is at the heart of what we do; the idea is to free up time to focus on promoting touring shows and new creations.»

THE GET DOWN TEAM

Camille and Flora: working alongside each other since Get Down’s early days

The team naturally consists of Camille Philippot, founder and coordinator of Get Down, which she set up in 2020. The agency was born out of a personal desire: to combine her entrepreneurial drive with her passion for street and club dance, while meeting the needs of the artists practising these styles.

Alongside her, Camille can count on a long-standing ‘teammate’: Flora Chassang. Although she is not on a permanent contract, Flora, a producer and freelance photographer, is a full member of the team. Her deep knowledge of the sector and the agency’s structure is invaluable, and she is a key point of reference for Camille in the development of Get Down. She works on various projects for the agency. Most recently, she has notably managed the production of this summer’s tours, co-managed the recruitment process for the production role alongside Camille, and taken part in the free, monthly drop-in sessions organised by the agency, where she offers her expertise and advice to artists.

New arrivals

Marta Bigus

Following a recruitment process, Marta Bigus has joined Get Down to take charge of production for tours and new creations. After starting her career in academic research as a historian, Marta moved into project coordination, administration and production in the field of dance. She is particularly interested in productions at the crossroads of hip hop, Afro styles, and African and Afro-Caribbean dances. Marta already has solid practical experience and has notably worked with Faso Danse, Serge Aimé Coulibaly’s company. At Get Down, she is now responsible for the operational side of tour production: logistics, schedule management and budget monitoring.

And it’s fair to say that the start of the season is a busy one ! Between now and December, Marta will be managing around ten tour dates for the artists supported by Get Down. At the same time, she is also following up on new productions, such as Hendrickx Ntela’s Féex project, currently co-produced and supported by Theater Rotterdam.

“It’s a real pleasure to work in an organisation where authenticity, commitment, empathy, respect and care for others are prioritised. This approach, which is part of Get Down’s DNA, inspires me to give my very best to this agency and its artists.” — Marta

Jeanne Carella

The agency also relies on the interns who come to learn. Camille sees this collaboration as a genuine exchange: the students are there to learn as much as possible, but also to commit fully to the projects they are working on. Jeanne Carella, a Master’s student in performing arts and a dance passionate, mainly practises vernacular jazz and house. In September, Jeanne joined Get Down for a cross-disciplinary internship combining production support, project management, promotion and artist support. Jeanne will soon be joined by another student: recruitment is currently underway to welcome a second intern specialising in communications and marketing for this term!

“I’m thrilled to be able to develop my professional skills at Get Down! When I discovered the agency on social media, I really wanted to join! Everything about it inspired me! Since I started, I’ve been very happy with the projects I’m working on and with being part of such a pleasant working environment.” — Jeanne

For Camille, working with interns energises the team and is also a way of passing on knowledge: “It allows us to pass on knowledge about these professions, which aren’t always well known, and that’s something I value and want to promote.”

All these people create a sense of cohesion and team synergy that Camille is committed to developing.

OVERALL COORDINATION: A VISION OF WORK

Coordinating a team requires very specific management skills. How to manage a group in terms of leadership?Having not received any specific formation in this area, Camille developed her approach on the job using a method she calls ‘trial and error’. This approach involves self-reflection, adaptability and learning from past experiences. Team management is thus seen as a work in progress: processes are tested, adjusted and reinvented as the work progresses. According to Camille, effective coordination also relies on efficient collaborative tools, smooth internal operations and transparent communication, particularly through weekly team meetings. The idea is to establish a shared framework while maintaining Get Down’s ‘distinctive style’.

A balance between structure and flexibility

Within her team, Camille aims to find a balance between structure and flexibility. This approach is not based on theories learnt at university, but on her experience and her own way of working, guided by a desire for flexibility, challenge and structure.

Clocking in and out, for example, is not practised at Get Down. The agency adopts an approach that does not treat people like children: each person is responsible for achieving their collectively defined objectives. But this freedom also requires striking a balance. Camille believes there are certain limits to flexibility:

“I realised that I was trying to introduce too much flexibility, but that sometimes there wasn’t enough structure, even for myself. The most important thing is to achieve your goals, not necessarily to spend eight hours non-stop at your computer.”

At Get Down, the aim is therefore not to do away with structure, but to consider what really enables people to evolve in a working environment that is both healthy and effective.

Understanding yourself to work as a team

During her career, Camille had the opportunity to take the Insights Discovery test. This behavioural test fed into her thinking as a manager: understanding how she herself functions better enables her to work better with others:

“The way Get Down operates may well have started with an understanding of my own needs. ”

Today, this way of thinking is put into practice within the team. In particular, Camille asks everyone to complete a form entitled ‘How I function’. The aim is to encourage team members to identify their needs, their working habits and the way they interact with others. Born out of her personal reflections and her understanding of her own way of working, this approach has thus become a collective tool. Camille encourages the team to embrace this approach and share their thoughts:

“It’s about telling the team: ‘Go for it, too.’ It’s by understanding how we ourselves work, and by building personal relationships, that we come to understand how others work, and that’s when we work better together.”

For Camille, aiming for greater self-awareness also helps us understand that people’s needs and ways of working differ from one person to another. This understanding then helps not only with collaboration, but also with the quality of our relationships. Camille is committed to creating an atmosphere where work isn’t seen in isolation, but within an environment characterised by human interaction and kindness. The agency is thus structured as a small community of people moving forward together, in a spirit of trust.
