Collaboration with the Kifesh Company : Support for the Promotion of the Creation Kifesh 2.0 at the Avignon Off Festival
In July 2024, Get Down collaborated with Compagnie Kifesh and choreographer Oumar Diallo to support the show Kifesh 2.0 at the Théâtre des Doms during the Avignon Off Festival. This one-time mission aimed to establish concrete connections with industry professionals present at the festival to support the project’s goals and future initiatives of the company. The show attracted more than a hundred professionals (programmers and journalists) over three weeks and was highly sought after by the festival audience.
Who is Oumar Diallo?
Oumar Diallo, a Brussels-based choreographer and performer, specializes in popping and hip-hop freestyle. Passionate about dance, he has pursued various training opportunities while traveling the world to enrich his practice. In addition to his dance career, he is a DJ and organizes events such as “Supreme Cypher” and “CreativBoil.” His career took a turn in 2017 when he won second place in the “1000 Pieces Puzzle” competition, marking the beginning of his Kifesh project, which led to the founding of his eponymous company. Oumar focuses on adapting street and club dances for the stage, emphasizing authenticity and guided improvisation. He is currently preparing a new project for the 2025-2026 season, exploring themes of altered reality and mental health, in collaboration with dancers from the Belgian street dance scene. He is also working on a one-man show blending humor and dance, which will highlight aspects of his life.
Compagnie Kifesh
Founded in 2020 by Oumar Diallo, Compagnie Kifesh is a street dance troupe committed to conveying strong and personal messages. Drawing inspiration from the artistic skills of its dancers, the company creates emotionally charged pieces that address themes such as self-acceptance, resilience, and introspection. Kifesh 2.0 is their second theatrical production, aiming to reach a broad audience, including young people who may not be familiar with theater.
Kifesh 2.0
Through Kifesh 2.0, Oumar and Israël, inspired by their personal experiences, highlight young people from similar backgrounds facing the same daily challenges and lacking platforms for expression. By dancing their experiences, they convey a message of resilience, encouraging the acceptance and appreciation of differences. The piece is characterized by its authenticity and closeness to the audience, who become active participants in the performance. The near absence of music and the focus on body movement strengthen this intimate connection between the artists and the audience.
